German yellowjacket (Vespula germanica) - Vespula germanica - Female

This is a worker German yellowjacket, Vespula germanica, pulling up fibers for nesting material. This individual is a slightly melanic form, with completely free black spots only on the second and fifth tergites. Queens and xanthic workers of this species usually have free black spots all the way down the gaster.
