Good find, mostly Mexican in distribution - only gets up into the US in AZ around this locale. A little lighter [photoshop] version would help - the texture of the elytra is telling. Maybe a male? [hint]

 
yeah
lighting has been a recurring problem for me. probably won't be able to make it lighter as the sun really is the brightest light source I currently have access to. Hopefully someone with real fancy macro photography equipment will take a live shot some day. At least I know what dung they're attracted to now so I'll keep an eye out for males.
