Two-lined Spittlebug - Prosapia bicincta - male - female

Two-lined Spittlebug - Prosapia bicincta - Male Female
Eisenhower State Park, Osage County, Kansas, USA
July 12, 2007
Size: 1/3 inch long
These were in the prairies of eastern Kansas, near mixed woods. I assume they are some type of leafhopper, as most I saw were very agile and wary. Only when I found these two could I get close enough for a picture, as they were slightly distracted.

Prosapia bicincta
Beautiful shot of Two-lined Spittlebug, Prosapia bicincta. These are in the family Cercopidae and can easily be mistaken for Cicadellids. Nice find! Great to see another Kansan on here! I'm actually in Lawrence so if you want to go shooting/collecting sometime, shoot me a message!

Thanks so much for the ID, th
Thanks so much for the ID, that is one I never would have guessed. As for getting together, I'm actually from California. I made a special trip through Kansas this summer as I have never explored it before as a naturalist. I was extremely impressed with the variety and abundance of the insect life in your prairies. Thanks again!

Where in California
When I'm not in school, I live in San Ramon, near Oakland!
