Variable Dancer - Argia fumipennis - female

Variable Dancer - Argia fumipennis - Female
Ichetucknee Springs State Park, Suwannee County, Florida, USA
March 23, 2005
Found this damselfly along the trail to the Blue Hole spring. It was a fairly cooperative subject. As I was shooting it, it flew off briefly and returned with a small insect in its mouth, which it proceeded to consume.

I think you're right
Mike, I think you're right, Variable Dancer. Both males and females have that distinctive forked black shoulder stripe, and yours seems to show it—it's easier to see in this picture than the other one.

A bonus that you got a shot of her with prey, too!
