Mayfly - Maccaffertium vicarium

Mayfly - Maccaffertium vicarium
Indian Creek, Letcher County, Kentucky, USA
June 3, 2017
Found hanging on a rock.

Moved from Mayflies.

Maccaffertium
The forward notum shape aligns with Maccaffertium but which one is the big question. It is an extremely dark sample and likely from a very dark substrate in the stream. I put the location in google maps and the sea level elevation is

approximate elevation is 1,201 feet (366 meters) above sea level.

so fairly high suggesting the creeks substrate is darker and well shaded that would account for a very dark larva thus making a very dark adult.

This could fall to pudicum but the crossviens in the bulla area do not align with each other. It is to dark for carlsoni in the abdomen, this leaves us with possible vicarium. However one striking feature is how low the stigma stains is. For now let's place it as vicarium and if I think of something else I will post.
