Your Huge Spider
This is very bizarre. I have never seen that spider before today. My wife and I stopped by a friend's house and they had 3 just like yours in a web strung between some branches on a tree. THEN - we went home and were doing some work in our yard and saw that we had one too. In my search to identify this spider I found your posting. Please, please let me know if you find out anything about this spider. It's so beautiful... but we don't know if it's also dangerous. lol. Hope you're having a great weekend.

Nephila clavipes
Hi there ... in case you missed the comment on the accompanying page, this is a harmless orb-weaver. There are very few dangerous spiders in the U.S. and all of the spiders that make pretty webs are harmless :)
