Viceroy - Limenitis archippus - male

Viceroy - Limenitis archippus - Male
Norris City, White County, Illinois, USA
August 21, 2007
Data posting for this species in Illinois, for the month of August. And, not only that:

I was sure surprised to see it, as I hadn't seen one since May 15th! That's over three months without a sighting! This one looked pretty fresh, too. I can't take the credit, though, for initially spotting it. Those kudos goes to Steve Scott, who was down here in my area at what I liked to call a "mini-Bugguide gathering," which took place on August 21st, 2007.

Moved
Moved from Viceroy.

The Info page says you'll see them May through October
But amazingly enough, there was a post for March in Arkansas.

Surprising
Well, that is surprising, Ron!

Often, my eyes open wide and spirits soar
when I thrill to new butterfly posts.
