Shiny green Beetle - Harpalus

Shiny green Beetle - Harpalus
Manteca, San joaquin County, California, USA
August 22, 2007
Size: 1/2"
This guy caught my eye as he is so shiny green . He was in a sandy loam field limping along as an Ant decided to bite his leg and anchor on ... poor guy . He was quite fast trying to burrow despite the bad ant . He eventually shook the Ant off . He just wanted to burrow in the loose soil and hide . Any help in his identification will help me be more knowledgeable about bug-life , thanks , Beth
