Size: body about 1.5 inches
after looking online we think it might be a sawyer beetle but not sure. First time we have seen this in Hawaii.

I must qualify that I am no expert on Hawaiian cerambycidae, but...
Aegolipton reflexa seems to be quite close:

And it is the only prionine on the Hawaiian cerambycid list:

Thank you for the information. All the years we have lived here (57 years), this is the first time we have seen this beetle. Still doing a little research, but mahalo for the headstart.
