Scissor-grinder - Tibicen auletes

Scissor-grinder - Tibicen auletes
Hillsborough, Orange County, North Carolina, USA
August 14, 2007
Size: 4-5cm

Thanks Andy
The size I estimated was the body only. If the wings are added, it would be 6-7cm. It was double the size of the dog-day's I've seen before.

Tibicen auletes
The even coloring looks like that of the scissor-grinder, but the size you give is more nearly that of the dog-day cicada (4-5 cm, 1 cm across the eyes) whereas in T. auletes the length is usually 6-7 cm and 1.5-1.6 across the eyes.
