Used to be considered a separate family.

Two tribes:
Hylesinini - anterior margins of elytra procurved, pronotum unarmed, head visible from above.(1)
Scolytini - anterior margins of elytra forming a straight line across body, pronotum in most, armed with granules or asperities on at least anterior third, head concealed from above.(1)
