Little beetles - Chilocorus bipustulatus - male - female

Little beetles - Chilocorus bipustulatus - Male Female
Manteca, San joaquin County, California, USA
August 23, 2007
Size: half centimeter
I put the two beetles that I found and the bigger guy was very happy as he ran towards the littler one . He then climbed atop the little one , so it may be a male . I looked at 5 other bushes and could not find anymore of these little fellows . Are they a common type of bug ( or beetle ) ? Thank you for any information , sincerely , Beth ... the shutterbug
