This caterpillar was on a willow branch in my yard. Location is in the eastern Sierras at 8500 feet.

Looks like a Lophocampa maculata (Spotted Tussock Moth) caterpillar.

Thanks John, for responding. I saw your posting in the caterpillar images earlier today. I'll have to check next time I'm up north to see if I can find the cuckoon. I did notice other postings that mentioned the life cycle of this moth and that it winters over until spring. We get a lot of snowfall where my place is, so I hope it's a hardy type.
