girdling beetle - Oncideres pustulata

girdling beetle - Oncideres pustulata
McAllen, Hidalgo County, Texas, USA
October 21, 2004
Size: large
These large long-horned beetles girdle a small tree effectively killing them before laying their eggs in them. I didn't see this one in the guide. And does anyone know the scientific name ?

Oncideres sp.
Not cingulata, but from TX, it looks like either O. pustulata or O. rhodosticta.

Check this site

It seems to be the one you are looking for and the scientific name is Oncideres cingulata.

Oncideres cingulata
nice detective work. That site describes the beetle nicely, and the picture looks like a match. Thanks, now I know it's full name.
