Parasitic Flat Bark Beetle - Catogenus rufus

Parasitic Flat Bark Beetle - Catogenus rufus
Parkwood, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
August 24, 2007
Size: 9 mm
This beetle crawled inside my house, and was rescued by my spouse, who understands my obsessive need to identify, and usually not crush, any wandering insect. Size measured. Identification based on other images in the guide, and apparently there are only two North American species in the genus, with just one in the East.
Image updated 6/22/20.
