Size: at least 2 inches
Unexpected noise from wings hitting seed pods scared the heck out of me while hiking - I would like to know what type of beetle it is.

Ten-lined June Beetle
My guess is Polyphylla decemlineata (Ten-lined June Beetle). Check in guide here.
