Common SouthWestern Wasp? - Polistes comanchus

Common SouthWestern Wasp? - Polistes comanchus
Jerome, Yavapai County, Arizona, USA
August 18, 2007
Size: ~1.5-2"
Elevation ~5500 ft, 85F. This guy was huge and moving very fast around me. There were two, actually, trying to feed on some tall, tubular weeds. I've never seen such a large wasp, if in fact, it is. I can't determine it's ID from your webpage. Is it a common wasp to the SouthWest?

Interesting wasp.....
I'v never seen one like it before..... It does look like some type of polistes, though. Somebody else might be able to give you a specific ID.
