blond Sand-loving Scarab?

blond Sand-loving Scarab?
Organ Mountains foothills, Doña Ana County, New Mexico, USA
August 6, 2006
Size: about 4.5 mm
This it the lightest-colored and widest (per length) of the bristly, prognathous scaraboids I brought back unphotographed from last year's collecting/photography trip to southern New Mexico. It came to UV lights on greasewood/mesquite/cactus incline below jagged spires of the Organ Mountains, a somewhat more desertified site than my Aug. 9 location on this trip.

This image is actually two that are merged to obtain better range of focus.

3rd sp.
and an unusual one at that. Great job.

you're amazing
new family AND multiple species. Congrats, and thanks for sharing the fruits of your efforts!

Amazing, yes,
for having sat on them all this time because I had supposedly more interesting beetles to shoot :-) Takes a special type. Rhymes with Once.
