Grub?

Grub?
Pottstown, Chester County, Pennsylvania, USA
February 12, 2006
Size: about 2 inches
This thing was crawling across my driveway on its back. At least it looked like it was on its back. The 'top' side had what looked like six legs but when I tuned it over it flipped onto its back again and continued moving by undulating its entire body.

Moved
Moved from Scarab Beetles.

Yes, this looks like the larva of some kind of beetle. It shouldent be out in the open above ground like that, though.

I find these in my yard alot.
I find these in my yard alot. But they usually look really moist and shiney. They are larvae from japanese beetle, so i'm told. they feed on grass roots and such. They will generally curl up when disturbed, that driveway was most likely too hot for his liking. Nasty looking things thats for sure.

Not at this size.
It would have to be a larger species similar to this one that also is a back crawler. Some large scarab grubs go on a fresh air "romp" at times, perhaps before they pupate.
