Cicindelidae larva - Cicindela hirticollis

Cicindelidae larva - Cicindela hirticollis
Plum Island, Essex County, Massachusetts, USA
October 12, 2004
Found this one crawling along on a coastal beach. Repanda larva?

Thanks Ben. Now all I have to do is see the adult of this species.

Cicindela hirticollis, I think
I believe that this is a Cicindela hirticollis larva. The pronotum on this critter is covered with well over 100 flattened setae, which keys it out to hirticollis, per Leonard and Bell 1999. Repanda has fewer than 10 secondary setae on the pronotum.

It's the spitting image of C. hirticollis larvae I've found in my area. Larvae of this species will often abandon their burrows and crawl in response to conditions that are not to their liking.

What in the world!
Bugs never cease to amaze me. I would never have imagined something looking like that! I googled and found some info...http://members.aol.com/YESedu/ecologyt.html

strange creature
These sure are different looking. I checked out the site you found, and learned more about tiger beetles. Thanks.
