Spider Wasp - Ceropales maculata - female

Spider Wasp - Ceropales maculata - Female
Sterling Forest, Tuxedo, Orange County, New York, USA
August 5, 2007
I believe this is Ceropales maculata, the sp. Nick Fensler identified for me in 2006. However the top yellow abdominal marks on last year's wasp, (as well as the Illinois specimen) don't meet, while this one shows a complete band. Is this just normal variation? There were 12-15 in one small area, all on Queen Anne's Lace - 2 or 3 on a flower. Thanks, Sandy Spitalnik

C. maculata fraterna
as i understand it, the first tergite has a spot in males and a band in females.
