Another new wasp for this year. I've only seen one of these in the park.

Blackjacket...
Looks like either a male blackjacket, vespula consobrinia, or a male parasitic yellowjacket, dolichovespula adulterinia

Distinctive features, relative to D. adulterina arctica, are easier to see on the other picture.

 
I'd like to know how to tell them apart...
I don't know any ways of destinguishing between the two, can you tell me how ???

 
Well... I think...
the best for you is to look at photograph Nr 34282, posted by Tony Thomas, available on the Vespula consobrina page. There, one male of each species is showed from dorsal view. For me, the most striking difference lies in the shape of the pronotum, gently rounded in Vespula and truncated in Dolichovespula (as color pattern of both species varies in a parallel way to some extent, and length of oculo-malar space is difficult to assess without comparison in males).
