Olive Psyllid - Euphyllura olivina

Olive Psyllid - Euphyllura olivina
Avalon, Catalina Island, Los Angeles County, California, USA
July 5, 2017
Did not expect to encounter this species here - doesn't seem to have been recorded from the island before.

These were not abundant - the telltale white fluff was only present on a very small percentage (less than 1%) of the leaves, from two trees sampled. Most of this was on the higher leaves, just out of reach.

The species does not survive in high temps, so low numbers could be a result of the increasing temperatures of summer.

I am curious how and when and from where the species arrived on the island. Olive trees aren't common on the island but are used as an ornamental tree in a few places.
