Oak Tree Killer Cats!! - Datana contracta
Columbia, Boone County, Missouri, USA
August 26, 2007
Size: from 3/4 inch to 1.5 inch
These things are insane... they were working on about 5 leaves on our pin oak tree... I left and came back two hours later and they were two feet away... no leaves left.

Moved
Moved from Datana.

D. contracta
Looks like D. contracta

datana species?
datana species?

Wagner, page 294
lists Datana contracta as feeding on chestnut and oak. He describes it as "black and cream striped caterpillar with long soft whitish hairs - black middorsal stripe broad with 4 cream and three black stripes below it."

Bullseye!
Definitely the exact description.
