I believe this is a Melanoplus angustipennis.

Red-leg Grasshopper probably
Hi, The yellowish coloring, the rather even herring-bone pattern on the hind femur, and the apparently (hard to see) swollen end of the abdomen all argue for M. femurrubrum. I of course can't be absolutely certain without seeing more detail of the end of the abdomen, but I'm fairly sure. Several species look a great deal alike in pattern and size, and they often occur in the same areas. Most common look-alikes for this one in your part of the world are probably M. angustipennis and M. sanguinipes, but they have a narrower notched subgenital plate, giving a smaller end to the abdomen, and smaller cerci, plus they usually aren't yellowish. M. angustipennis is often grayish, and M. sanguinipes grayish to slightly blue-greenish. All is inconclusive without seeing the details though, and females are really difficult (but usually look like the males they are with).

Such is life with these guys.
Such is life with these guys....working on catching more of these in the future for the necessary diagnostic shots.
