This one took me a while. I think it's Pachysphinx modesta, the Modest Sphinx. The similar P. occidentalis is, in Canada, found only in Alberta, according to the guide page for that species. This is a really good addition to the guide, assuming my ID is correct. This is the only image we have of a caterpillar for this species. It may have been about to pupate when you found it. Did you keep it?

 
the Modest Sphinx
Just found one of these green giants in my shop in Ontario, OREGON (not Canada). He's a looooooong way from home if Canada is the only place they are found.
Has anyone kept one to see what emerges from this green hot dog?
