Chlamisini - Warty Leaf Beetles. Thanks for help (comments)--perhaps a more specific identification will be forthcoming.

That sounds like a good fit to this photo. So I think this is likely
Chlamisus foveolatus. It is also on a
checklist from the Great Smokies.
