Robber Fly Questions - Promachus rufipes - female

Robber Fly Questions - Promachus rufipes - Female
Doddridge County, West Virginia, USA
August 21, 2007
Size: about 1 1/2"
This specimen was missing one wing and was in the same location for at least two days (it was alive at the time). It has since disappeared. What are their predators...spiders? And I'd be interested in comments as to whether it could have flown with one wing.

It appears to be a female Promachus rufipes to me, they are common around here. These will be frassed since I already have representatives in the guide.

We still hope you get an answer to your question
We're interested in whether it just eclosed without a wing or if they lose them in battles somehow. Very interesting!

Me too!
I debated whether to move this to Promachus page when I sent it to Frass. For the time being I'm going to move it to the guide in the hope that someone can answer these questions. Surely don't need any more WV images, but I'd really like to know.

Please feel free to frass if they just add clutter...thanks.
