Explanation of Names

Mecinus pyraster (Herbst 1795)

Size

3-4.5 mm

Identification

Body cylindrical, rostrum rather short and strongly curved. Black, with white, a bit bristling hairs, especially on elytral apex, where they form a feeble crest on suture.

Plantaginaceae: Plantago spp., especially P.lanceolata. Larvae develop in root crowns.
