Moved from Uvarus.

Actually Liodessus...
The transverse occipital groove on the head just behind the eyes separates this genus from Uvarus..From the species keys this appears to be either L. affinis or L. noviaffinis, which are basically identical in terms of colouration (members of each species are also variable in colour and patterning) and can only be reliably separated via examination of male genitalia...and I just can't imagine how you do that to a tiny bug like this (other than microdissection)...

Don't see a groove
but I don't know what to look for. I see what might be called a transverse pronotal band, the light-colored crosswise broken stripe behind the eyes. Anyway, I will gladly accept the new ID as I figure you *do* know what you're looking at :-) Thanks, Tim.

BTW, I've added another image of this beetle.

my best shot at this is Uvarus
can't be sure for the lack of detail, sorry :-[

I'll take it.
With my equipment detail is hard to get in a 2mm water beetle.
