Please Identify This Spider Hanging From Carport - Metepeira
Southwest Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona, USA
April 2, 2005
Size: APPX. 1/2" to 3/4" long.
This spider has been living on my carport for a short while. Seems to be nocturnal, as I've only seen it at night. There is a small tube web that she runs into now and then. I'm sure somebody knows what this is, after two hours of looking at photos of vaguely similar creatures, I'm stumped.

Moved from Metepeira.

Neoscona
Perhaps an immature Neoscona sp. The longitudinal groove on the carapace just ahead of the abdomen also indicates this genus I believe. The pattern is also consistent with this genus, but there are many variations and I can't nail down a specific sp.

Neoscona
Thanks for your input, I thought that also however the web is definetely not of the orb variety. The consruction is very unorganized, with a tube in the middle. Sitting in the web the spider, from across the carport, looked much like a cream colored Latrodectus. Growing up in AZ I've seen plenty of Widows, but never one like this.
