tigerbug - Pselliopus cinctus

tigerbug - Pselliopus cinctus
brookhaven, lincoln County, Mississippi, USA
August 24, 2007
Size: aprox. 1 inch
I found this in my yard and wondered what it was since I have lived here for 37 years an never seen anything like it before! Hope some one knows! Thanks!

Moved
Moved from Pselliopus.

As currently recognized...
this is P. cinctus.

Moved
Moved from Assassin Bugs.

Pselliopus sp.
The genus is in need of revision. Even some of the existing Bugguide images taken to species level may be incorrect.

impressive
It's an assassin bug of some sort. Awesome colors. Someone else, or myself should be able to narrow down species on that.

After some research...
possibly Pselliopus cinctus? Almost certainly genus Pselliopus.

assasin bug
Thanks for your help! I'm sort of an amatuer digital photog, {very amatuer, lol!}, and i love to do macros and close ups of insects and spiders. It really helps to know what you've just taken a picture of, heh! Thanks again!!
