Black Carpenter Bee, Very Large Fly or ??? - Cuterebra

Black Carpenter Bee, Very Large Fly or ??? - Cuterebra
Culver City / Los Angeles, California, USA
August 19, 2017
I think this is a Black Carpenter Bee. However the little red spots on its head are throwing me. I've never actually seen a Carpenter Bee, other than the pics I Googled today, trying to identify this big dude. I also Googled large black fly and those pics had the red spots but they were much much bigger. I found him in the parking lot of a hotel and he was moving pretty slowly, kind of going in circles like he was confused. I moved him to the bushes and he seemed to like it better there, but who knows. At least he won't get squished there. The white under him is actually paint spot on the ground. He's all black except for the red that I described above. Any help identifying this dude would be awesome. My curiosity as to what it is just won't quit. Thanks in advance.

Bot Fly
WOW!!! Thanks for the quick response. I've seen Bot Fly larvae before, but I've never seen an actual Bot Fly. Creepy factor is high for this dude!! Thanks again!
