DSCF1908.jpg Flying in daylight June 25 and captured by my two young grand kids. They both have butterfly nets. As in the case of nearly every specimen posted here it was released alive after the image was taken. Locality: Coastal SW Washington State at the edge of Willapa Bay

Quite a story here in SW Washington which was becoming overrun with Tansy Ragwort (aka 'Tansy'), an invader from Europe. It was a common cause of poisoning in cattle and horses. The Cinnabar moth larvae have nearly eliminated it from our roadsides and pastures and now it is a little difficult to find an adult moth. To see pictures and a description of 'Tansy' go to the King County Natural Resources and Parks Bulletin.

See Cheryl's pictures of the larvae chowing down. Example
