I'm thinking part of Genus Melanoplus due to the shape, but can't find a matching color.

Melanoplus femurrubrum male
Looks like one of those really strikingly colored individuals of the Red-legged Grasshpopper.

Yes.
It is indeed a Melanoplus sp, but color means virtually nothing in this genus. ID hinges on the genitalia and shape of the cercus in adult males.
