Metallic Blue Leaf Beetle - Chrysolina

Metallic Blue Leaf Beetle - Chrysolina
Rattlesnake Mountain, Washington, USA
July 28, 2007

Moved
Moved from Chrysolina.

not easy at all . . .
There are two European spp. naturalized for control of this weed, and you need male genitalia to seperate them with certainty.
C.quadrigemina seems to be the dominant sp. in N-America, though, and in it, both sexes are very brillant dorsally, while in C.hyperici, females are a bit opaque.

Well that's not very nice!
It should be easier than that! :)
Thanks for that information, Boris.

Well, that flower is definitely
a Hypericum, so that should solidify the beetle ID pretty easily.
