Dear Maggie,

Thanks so very much for getting me searching in the right direction. I do believe that it is, as you suggest, Coelioxys octodentatus. It seems to match and I did look carefully at the wing veination as well. I didn't realize that the red legs could be an important distinction between this Genus and the Potters.

It looks more like one of the Cuckoo-leaf-cutter Bees to me, but I don't know what you have locally. I'm sure those red legs are a clue. (:
