Chauliognathus lecontei

Chauliognathus lecontei
Cienega Creek Preserve, Pima County, Arizona, USA
September 7, 2007
Size: ~20 - 25mm
Chauliognathus lecontei I think. Much bigger than the other soldier beetles I've seen in AZ. I'm pretty sure I've got the ID correct, but open to correction.

Moved
Moved from Chauliognathus.

yes, C. lecontei
From the key to the NAmer Chauliognathus, C. lecontei has "pale" (red) head, vice a black head of the otherwise similar C. profundus. Species page already created - just move :)

Cool
Very cool insect! Fun to see the western relative of our eastern Chauliognathus.
