Unknown insect feeding in milkweed -
Eremnophila aureonotata

September 16, 2017
Was collecting nectar from milkweed flowers, back sections moving in and out while insect was sucking nectar. Flew away after a few minutes.

Beautiful!
Actually, there are two, and they are mating. Wasps, family Sphecidae. Given color pattern I expect someone with knowledge about the US can say much more than that!
