Caterpillar. Unknown species. Perhaps a fritillary?

Photo probably taken in the northeastern US

I am fairly confident that this is the propar subfamily.
But, I may turn out to be wrong.

Moved from Butterflies.

I went ahead and cross referenced these
because they appear to be the same caterpillar on the same leaf. Even if not, I think this will help keep them together until identified.

Structurally this does look a lot like a Fritillary caterpillar, but I know of none that look like this. It also reminds me of the Asian group that includes Vagrans, Cupha, etc. (closely related to Fritillaries), and most of all it reminds me of Acraea, but I wouldn't know which species. I'm guessing it's not a native North American species, but I'm not really sure what it is.

Here is one on Flickr that looks structurally very nearly the same, but is colored differently. This one is Acraea issoria from Hong Kong.
