One-spotted spider wasp - Episyron biguttatus

One-spotted spider wasp - Episyron biguttatus
New Boston, Wayne County, Michigan, USA
September 9, 2007
This appears to be an Episyron spider wasp, but none in the guide have only a single white spot on the abdomen. Is this a new species for the guide?

Pompilidae
see Episyron biguttatus.

E. biguttatus
They all appear to have a pair of spots, not just one.

i am not sure i follow, if i am not mistaken, you can see the right side of the abdomen in one picture and the left in the other... both with the white mark. i think your wasp has a pair of spots.

Sorry
I meant more than one spot on each side. I think there is mention on one of the biguttatus photos that there is a lot of variability, and that looking at the tarsal comb helps with ID. I have additional photos and could probably see this feature, if I knew what I was looking for.

Episyron
they can be rather variable... a key for this genus can be found here, starting on page 215. i think this is E. biguttatus.

Thanks
...for the link to the key, and sticking with this ID!
