Faithful Beauty - Composia fidelissima - male

Faithful Beauty - Composia fidelissima - Male
Miami, Miami-Dade County, Florida, USA
September 9, 2007
Males and females are identical in color and pattern, but the sexes may be differentiated by the antennae. Males antennae are feather like (plumose) while females taper to a point at the tip (setaceous). The yellow bubbles on the back of this male is a distasteful liquid produced by the adults as a defense to deter predators. In this case, I was the predaor!
