The beetle is Phanaues vindex. Any chance of ID'ing the mites? Hitchhikers no doubt.

Mites
Did you get an ID? Where was this beetle? If it is in a captive environment, do you use any mites as biological control? It could be Stratiolaelaps or one other predatory soil mite?

Answers
Beth,

I do not have an ID on the mites. Subsequent research on the internet suggested Macrocheles amygdaligera as a common mite on these beetles.

The beetle was in my yard at my home in Southampton, NJ. Specifically, it was on my deck. I photographed it in situ. It was not in a captive environment. We do not use any mights for biological control.
