Mystery noctuid 1 on Goldenrod

I think it's a noctuid because of the shoulders and thorax. I cannot find many moths that are holding their wings this way. Even if the moth cannot be identified, I would much appreciate advice on what groups, if any so specialize, overlap their wings in this way.

I am posting one more image of a similar fall moth, though coloration is quite different.
