Big Paper Wasp Nest - Polistes dorsalis - male - female

Big Paper Wasp Nest - Polistes dorsalis - Male Female
Herring Run Park, Baltimore City County, Maryland, USA
August 29, 2007
Biggest I've ever seen 'round these parts!

Moved from Polistes dorsalis.

Polistes dorsalis
The males have the anterior surface of the apical flagellomeres pale, which brings this to dorsalis.

P. fuscatus.
Looks like the northern paper wasp, Polistes fuscatus. I see males (pale, square faces) as well as females on this crowded nest. Neat image.
