Size: ~ 1.5 to 2 inches
I believe this to be a Tabanus Atratus. I've seen quite a few of them over the years that I lived in florida (21). When I was visiting back home recently I decided to take a photo of one. The max size I've seen listed for this particular horse fly is 1 1/8 inches. This beast was at least 1 1/2 inches if not more. I would love input on if I am correct in my classification for this horse fly. You can see the gnats and a house fly present for size comparison.
