I have been chasing these guys all summer, but haven't been able to get one to pose for a picture.
I stumbled across this picture I took last summer.
Maybe I can at least find out the name.
The purple and gold colors are popular with LSU fans.

Possibly Pepsis menechma, I'm not confident of the genus though.

 
Correct.
A male specimen. The very thick antennae rules out Entypus.
