Spider wasp venom?

Dear Bug Cognoscenti,

I am a research scientist, and I am interested in studying the effects
of venom from the Tarantula Hawk wasp (spp. Pepsis or Hemipepsis).

I've seen it referred to that they have one of the most painful stings
among insects in North America. Since I do research regarding the
mechanisms of pain sensation, I would be interested in whether anyone
might have an idea for a person or company that may be able to provide
this type of venom.

Thanks in advance!

Nat

All pain!
Nat, I 'just' got a copy of a new paper on the subject by Justin Schmidt. If you do not already have a reprint, please let me know and I will send off a copy. Summarizing, the venom of Pepsis wasps is essentially "all pain" with no other effects to speak of (no nerve damage, necrosis, etc). Bugeric@webtv.net

Not sure, but...
Why don't you try emailing Thomas Eisner. I emailed him after reading For Love of Insects(1) and found him very approachable. He has done similar work, so he may be able to point you at some good resources.
