Identification
Elongate, wingless insects which have short antennae of no more than 4 segments, short legs, and a springing organ on the underside of the next-to-last abdominal segment. A well developed prothorax can be seen from above. Most have aggregated eyes. (1)

Found in a wide variety of habitats ranging from snowy ground to the seashore and water surfaces. (1)
