Bug or beetle - Microdon Bug or beetle - Microdon

Wow!
This is, believe it or not, the larva of a syrphid fly in the genus Microdon! They are so bizarre they were initially classified as mollusks. They live inside ant colonies, feeding mostly on the pupae of ants, especially carpenter ants (Camponotus). Great image of a truly bizarre creature. Congratulations, and thanks for sharing!

Nozzle
What's that nozzle at the front?
For that matter, is that the front or the back?
